Renowned photographer, Peter Turnley, is most recognized for his mastery of the photographic essay, and has been featured in Newsweek, Harper’s, National Geographic, The New Yorker, and more.  In the last 30 years, he has photographed most of the world’s conflicts and shed light on injustice and human suffering, while also giving prominence to the often overlooked but beautiful and inspirational details in life.

Now, aside from his on-going career as a photographer, Turnley is also an esteemed teacher of photography with multiple honorary Doctorate degrees, Turnley has already left a significant impression on photojournalism and fine art photography.

With a lifelong photo archive of more than 25,000 images, Peter Turnley is an icon for modern photographers. We had the opportunity to ask him a few questions about his work and inspiration.

How did you get  your start in photojournalism?

What do you feel is your most important work?

Is there a subject you never tire of shooting?

Describe your latest project: “The Human Condition”

How difficult was it to edit your career down to 60 images?
