Stephane Cardinale has had a long and storied career as a photographer and has been shooting the Cannes Film Festival for over 20 years.
Corbis talked to Stephane about his experiences shooting at Cannes and some of his best memories of the event.
Corbis: How long have you been covering Cannes?
Stephane: I’ve been covering the Cannes Film Festival since 1991.
Corbis: What are some of your favorite memories of the event?
Stephane:
1997 – When Michael Jackson presented the Stan Winston movie “Ghost” at midnight on the marshes.
1998 – When Roberto Begnini knelt to kiss the feet of Martin Scorsese when he received the Special Jury Prize.
2007- When U2 performed on the red carpet.
Corbis: How did your experience as a French Naval photographer prepare you for your current career?
Stephane: During my military service in the French Navy, we had to navigate around the world for one year. It prepared me for all the travel I do as well as meeting different people in different parts of the world.
Corbis: Other than Cannes, what are your other favorite events to cover and photograph?
Stephane: My other favorite events are the Berlin Film Festival and Paris Fashion Week.
