Corbis visits NASA

Recently NASA invited our social media manager, Mike Spear, to the Dryden Flight Research Center for a closer look at NASA’s airborne Earth science missions. In attendance was a collection of 50 social media minded NASA fans from around the world. Like many other brands, NASA is realizing the power of social media to amplify their news. This event gave visitors a chance to meet scientists, tour equipment and have the same access to facilities as traditional media.

Corbis has a long history of NASA related imagery. From test flights to Apollo modules to Space Shuttle missions and Mars Rovers. We’d like to share some of the images from the event and a few of our best NASA images from the Corbis archives.

We appreciate Corbis’ photo gallery of images from NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center, Edwards Air Force Base, and images taken by Mike Spear during his visit to NASA Dryden for the Airborne Science media day on Jan. 25, 2013. Unfortunately, two of the 17 images on your gallery for NASA Dryden are misidentified. The aircraft in photos # 2 and 3 is a McDonnell-Douglas F-15D Eagle, not an F/A-18 Hornet. NASA Dryden operates a small number of both F-15s and F/A-18s for both flight research and mission support functions. We would appreciate a correction of your caption information for those two photos at your earliest opportunity.

    sincerely,

Hello Alan. Thanks for the heads up. We’ve made those corrections.
